Search Field

Enter a search string, using the same Search Rules as a basic search.

Language

Select a language from the Language list to restrict searches to documents written in that language.

From

A source group represents a collection of documents. They are created by the search administrator. If one or more source groups are defined, then they appear when you select Specific Source Groups. Limit your search by selecting from the list of source groups. If no source groups exist, or if you select All Source Groups, then all documents are searched.

Attribute Selection

Use this section to restrict the returned documents to those that match selected attributes, such as the author or the last modified date.

Note:

A document may appear in your query results because the query string matches an attribute value; the query string does not have to appear in the body text. This matching occurs in any search, so a separate attribute search required only when you want the query to disregard the body text.

Match

Select All to return documents that match all listed attributes, or select Any to return documents that match at least one of the attributes.

Attribute Name

Enter an attribute name or select one from the list that appears when you select this field. The list narrows as you type to display only the matching attributes.

Oracle SES includes default search attributes, such as title, description, and keywords. For example, the Author attribute is mapped to the From header in e-mail documents and the Author metatag in HTML documents. Search administrators also can create custom attributes.

Operator

Select an operator for each attribute. Some operators may not be valid for all attribute data types.

  • Equals: Returns documents with an attribute value that exactly matches the query value. Text values are not case-sensitive. For example, Title Equals oracle text returns documents whose title is "oracle text" or "Oracle Text." Applies to STRING, NUMBER, and DATE attributes.

  • Contains: Returns documents with a token of the attribute value that exactly matches the query value. Applies only to STRING attributes.

For example, suppose your document sources includes these four documents with an Author attribute:

    doc1: author="scott"

doc2: author="Scott tiger" has 2 tokens: Scott and tiger

doc3: author="scottm tiger" has 2 tokens: scottm and tiger

doc4: author="scott.tiger@oracle.com" has 4 tokens: Scott, tiger, oracle, and com

A search for Author Equals Scott returns only doc1, but a search for Author Contains Scott returns doc1, doc2, and doc4. Doc3 does not match because Scott is only a partial match for scottm.

  • Less than: Returns documents with an attribute value that is less than (or earlier than) the query value. For example, DocVersion Less than 3 returns documents that have a DocVersion attribute with a value less than 3. Applies only to NUMBER and DATE attributes.

  • Greater than: Returns documents with an attribute value that is greater than (or later than) the query value. Applies only to NUMBER and DATE attributes.

  • Greater than equals: Returns documents with an attribute value that is greater than or equal to the query value. For example, price Greater than or equal to 10 returns documents with a price attribute value of 10 or more. The query LastModifiedDate Greater than or equal to 12/23/2009 returns documents that were last modified on December 23, 2009 or later. Applies only to NUMBER and DATE attributes.

  • Less than equals: Returns documents with an attribute value that is less than or equal to the query value. Applies only to NUMBER and DATE attributes.

Value

Enter the query value. For DATE attributes, a calendar appears when you select this field. You can select a date from the calendar or enter a date manually in the format MM/DD/YYYY.
